The redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 has been picking up awards left and right, and these accolades have made the full-size pickup even more popular at our Manvel dealership! Shoppers love the premium technology and upscale amenities that make commuting into Houston extra exciting and comfortable.

However, we always want to remind folks that even though the Ram 1500 is easy on the eyes and not afraid to flaunt some style throughout Pearland, it’s still a serious truck. And we aren't the only ones saying that! MotorTrend testers checked out the Ram 1500, the Ford F-150, and the Chevy Silverado 1500 base trims – which are generally used for those who have serious tasks on the to-do list – and, spoiler alert, the Ram 1500 came out on top! Let’s review what they loved on our favorite full-size.


The Ram 1500 might have a slightly lower max tow rating than the F-150 – 12,745 pounds vs 13,200 pounds – but the base engine for the Ram 1500 is much better than the Ford F-150’s. With more than a 2,000-pound difference, testers noted how sluggish the F-150’s engine was and how capable the Ram 1500’s was, especially in Tow/Haul mode. On higher trims you can also get a Ram 1500 with air suspension, which you won’t find on the competition, and that air suspension equals extra-smooth travels around Friendswood and nearby Sugar Land.

Driver Comfort

The fanciest features on the Ram 1500 are best found on the top trims, but that doesn’t mean the base model is undesirable. The Chevy Silverado 1500 really let them down, as the model lacked manual seating adjustments, only had one USB port, and front-seat passengers didn’t get an arm rest. Yikes! The Ram 1500 does come with a standard 5-inch touchscreen. The Silverado 1500 has a touchscreen, but you won’t find one on the Ford F-150.
