Best Off Roading Spots in Houston

There is nothing better than taking the top off your Jeep and exploring the unpaved roads near Houston. That's why you got a Jeep, isn't it? No SUV was built for getting off the paved road, more than the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Gladiator. Fortunately, there are a plethora of destinations waiting for you to roll through, within driving distance from your Houston neighborhood.

Off-road capability and Jeep go hand-in-hand. The Jeep Wrangler and the newest addition to the Jeep family, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator are equipped with all the tools needed to enjoy nature at its most rugged. And some of the best off-road courses in and near Houston are designed with your Jeep in mind. Here are some of our favorites, in no particular order:

  • Xtreme off-Road Park and Beach: Located in Crosby, the name of this course explains everything you need to know. This is the ideal locale for the Houston driver who wants to test the limits of their Jeep's mudding capabilities. Deep bogs, wooded trails and steep hills pepper hundreds of acres for a thrilling experience. When you're ready to come down from that high, unload your gear and head to the beach for some fishing and a swim.
  • Creekside Offroad Ranch: Just a 45-minute drive from Houston, in Splendora. More than 350 acres of any type of terrain you can imagine: Sandy dunes, hills, mud pits, and loads of challenging trails. Built for your Jeep or you are welcome to tow out your four-wheeled toys.
  • Sam Houston National Forest: About an hour from Houston. Nothing says freedom quite like rolling through the natural elements of the Sam Houston National Forest. 85 miles of multiple-use trails grant you a variety of conditions to test the agility of your Gladiator or Wrangler.
  • General Sam's ATV and Off-Road Park: Located in Huntsville, about 80 minutes from Houston. This one is a bit of a hike, but well worth the trip if you like the sound of more than 700 acres of natural trails lined by pine trees and spring-fed creeks. Make a weekend out of your trip by hauling out the camper and taking advantage of the camping facilities.

What good is a Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Gladiator if you don't get to put it through the paces in the natural elements. Load up your friends and your gear and hook up your side-by-sides for an exciting weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Hit the trails in your trail-rated Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler and discover what your Jeep is capable of doing off-road.
