Service and Maintenance: you've got questions & we've got answers

There's more that goes into owning a vehicle than just signing the paperwork at our Houston dealership. You must make sure you take care of your car, truck, SUV, or minivan so that it has a long and healthy lifespan. Here are some common service and maintenance questions our service and parts team get and their answers.

Oil Changes

Why are oil changes important?

Oil is an important part of your vehicle. It keeps crucial parts properly lubricated so they don't overheat as you do all your driving around Manvel-Pearland and beyond. Overtime, the oil starts to get gummy, and it doesn't do as good of a job lubricating and cooling. Oil changes are relatively inexpensive (and we might have oil change service coupons!) but if you skip them the damage repair can be very costly.

Do I need an oil change every 3,000 miles?

Unless you have a very old vehicle, that 3,000-mile rule is pretty much obsolete at this point. Most modern vehicles can easily go 7,500 miles before they need an oil change and even further with a synthetic. As always, check your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram vehicle manual to see the suggested interval.

If you're on a lease and don't drive very much, mostly sticking to the local Sugarland area, there is a good chance your oil change light won't come on. For low mileage drivers and lessees, it's best to come in at least once a year for an oil change.

Battery Checks

Anyone whose had a dead battery knows how important it is to turn off vehicle lights, shut all doors, and make sure battery isn't approaching the end of its lifespan. Most batteries will last longer than three years, but it's good to start getting them checked around that interval. Signs to watch out for include:

  • The vehicle taking more time to turn over
  • A Dashboard warning
  • Flickering cabin lights or your radio starting to fade
  • The smell of eggs (if this happens, you'll need to bring it into our service center immediately)

Rubber Components: tires and wipers

We love all the fancy advanced safety technologies that many of our new vehicles can get, but it can be easy to overlook a crucial component that helps keep you safe on the League City streets: your tires! Having tires with the proper tread improve traction and everyone's safety.

When You Should Change Your Tires

  • If you put a quarter in the tread and can see above Washington's wig, you need new tires
  • There's cracking, bulges, or gouges around the sidewalls
  • You're noticing a lot of vibration when driving

Make sure you shop our service coupons to see if you can save on your tire purchase

Like tires, the usefulness of wipers can easily go unappreciated, especially in Texas where it doesn't rain a ton. That said, it's a good idea to change your wipers on a six month basis. That way when a storm comes in, you'll be able to see on your way home to Friendswood.
